DESIGNER 2022.3

Several new enhancements have been made in the 2022.3 version of DESIGNER, Hexagon’s CAD application for smarter manufacturing. Here are some of the major highlights:

Structure Tree filtering

The new Structure Tree has become a lot more powerful and user-friendly in DESIGNER 2022.3. The ability to group elements by colour to complement the group by type of element and user-defined grouping options have been introduced. Overall, usability has been improved and there is now more granularity when working with wireframe elements, giving more control and visibility to the user. In addition, search and filtering capabilities by PMI have been added to the tree, enabling more control over the elements in the model.

Easy creation of workplanes

Workplane creation has been made easier than ever before. Simply click on the workplane widget in the bottom left corner of the graphics area to create a new workplane. Users can do this at any time, regardless of whether they are already running a command or not. This makes it easy to create or modify geometry correctly every time. In addition to this, the create workplane command itself has been enhanced to make it easier to create workplanes on the relevant bounding points of cylindrical or turned parts.

Reverse engineering enhancements

The dedicated Reverse engineering tools and general CAD functionalities for Reverse Engineering have been improved to create a more powerful, streamlined and user-friendly solution. Calculations are faster, graphics are better, and many commands now support fragmented datasets better. Load and edit multiple clouds simultaneously, generate surfaces and solids from tubular meshes automatically, and automatically create freeform surfaces faster and better quality using the new surfacing method: Feature lines, in the one-click surface command.

Advanced surfacing

The advanced surface trimming command, edit boundary, is now a more automatic solution. Trimmingsurfaces or faces to smaller boundaries was always fast, requiring few user inputs, and now, the extension of faces and surfaces to outer boundaries is just as quick. This makes surface repair and trimming much faster with fewer user inputs required to get the desired results.

Sheet metal enhancements

Alongside a new triangular corner relief, the way corner reliefs are added to a sheet metal part has been improved. When adding etching to a part, the destination face is automatically selected, saving extra steps in the process. When working with an assembly, the process of setting material forms has been improved by automatically hiding parts with a property set and the results of this work can be exported into a Manufacturing Pack which contains DXF files of the flat parts and a flat bill of materials as a CSV file.
